My plan is to take a couple of weeks to cycle from John O’Groats to Land’s End. I want to finish before my birthday on 3rd May, so I can rest up over the bank holiday weekend before I go back to work. With that in mind this is my itinerary:

I will be supported on the trip by my Dad. He has acquired a motorhome to get me all the way to John O’Groats and from Land’s End to home. Everywhere in between will be down to me. Using the motorhome to get me to the start and from the finish line solves the logistical problem of doing this, plus, it will double as my accommodation for the trip and it also means that I will be able to bring along more spare equipment, should I need it and will provide a bit of a safety net ‘just in case.’
I will stay at various campsites along my planned route. The location of the campsites has dictated how many miles I will cycle each day. I planned the route using the on-line mapping tools from bikeroutetoaster.com and I will download the route for each day onto my recently purchased Garmin 800, which will help me navigate and I will also take paper maps as a back up.
I have spent quite a long time researching the route. I read up on the routes other end-to-enders have travelled and found the National Cycling Charity aka ‘CTC’ and cycle-endtoend.org.uk particularly helpful.
